Over the past few decades, women’s participation in the
workforce has increased signi昀椀cantly, with women representing
48% of employed Australians in 2022, up from 36% in 1979
according to the Australian Institute of Family Studies. While
this progress re昀氀ects strides toward gender equality, many
employers still overlook the speci昀椀c health and wellbeing
challenges women face, which can hinder career growth and
workplace participation.

performance, yet many women avoid discussing these due to fear of career consequences.
Additionally, women often face mental health struggles, safety concerns, and caregiving
responsibilities that further a昀昀ect their work.
By recognising these unique challenges, leaders can create more inclusive and supportive
environments. This article explores practical ways to support women’s health and wellbeing,
from 昀氀exible work arrangements and improved paid leave policies to con昀椀dential support
services. We’ll also highlight how companies like Robert Walters are leading the way in
fostering healthier, more inclusive workplaces.
